alex fugallo's ETAPE osteopath GUIDE

1. Listen to your body, niggles are common with hard training but problems shouldn't persist. If there is a pain which doesn't go away something needs to be done.
2. Deal with problems early. Its usually much easier to fix something before it completely falls apart.
3. Keep your training functionally specific. No running, rowing, swimming etc, core exercises in an upright position.
4. Don't make big changes just before you go or do things for the first time on the ride. You need time to adapt to change. This includes training loads, equipment, clothing, nutrition and massage.
5. Don't try and do 6 months training in 4 weeks. You need appropriate recovery time for your body to adapt to training loads.
6. Optimise your recovery after rides with good nutrition and rest. Ice baths and compression clothing for the obsessives.
7. Taper training towards the ride, there's no point being exhausted for it.
