GLIDER TUPELO 2008

The Glider Tupelo is very special to all of us at CycleFit – in 2005 it was the first ever Glider frame (designed by Julian, Phil and Warrick) and built by Serotta in Saratoga Springs. But it also effectively had to go out there as a test-bed for our whole design philosophy that athletes perform better if they are more comfortable and efficient. The fact that until this year we only changed the decals is testimony to our faith in both the original design and Serotta’s flawless engineering and reputation.

2008 Tupelo

This year the Glider Tupelo is very different. For 2008 we believe the Glider Tupelo is the finest stock steel frame available anywhere in the world from any manufacturer. We believe this to be the case for three reasons:

1. We are using the finest fabrication workshop in the history of bicycling manufacturing – New York’s Serotta Competition Bicycles 2. We are using the finest and most expensive steel tubing in the rich history of the material – triple-butted P2S Colorado Concept Columbus Niobium Spirit. 3. CycleFit Glider geometry - proven thinking that puts the rider first whilst maintaining a classic race aesthetic.

Since neither the manufacturer (Serotta) or the geometry is changing for 2008 lets look at what is – the tubing. Columbus Spirit Niobium Steel Alloy is a very rare and special material. Made rarer and more special when it’s shape and profile is specially designed and formed for Serotta by Columbus and gains the former’s ‘Colorado Concept’ tag. Columbus Spirit is an elite racing air-hardened steel tubeset that represents decades of evolution for Columbus. The special micro-alloys of Niobium, Manganese, Chrome, Nickel, and Molybdenum give mechanical properties that are unattainable by conventional steel tubes. Put simply this means that we can make the 2008 Tupelo, lighter, stiffer and stronger. The triple-butted tubes are so strong that they can be formed into the thinnest tube-all profile in the world and yet still retain incredible strength and durability – the middle of our toptube is a miraculous 0.38mm and the whole tube weighs only 168 grams!
