Open Cycles

The company that brought into being the whole Gravel category

Riding & Racing at top speed the U.P. & U.P.PER. 2.0

10 years after the OPEN U.P. defined the gravel bike, we have perfected it with the U.P. 2.0 and superlight U.P.PER. 2.0

U.P. and U.P.PER. highlights:

  • A light, nimble gravel bike for fast racing or riding. Even an overnighter or fast tarmac group rides are possible thanks to its comfort, efficiency and speed.
  • To ride faster & farther requires high comfort & low drag. The new frameset keeps OPEN's legendary frame compliance while adding aero where it matters.
  • Optimized for 35-46mm tires (44mm on the CONCE.PT) for the most responsive and fun handling possible on all terrain. To go even bigger, consider the WI.DE.
  • Full-carbon closed-shape design (no inserts or clamp cut) for optimal stiffness, strength & weight. 10 sizes, each can adjust stem length by 15mm in 5mm steps.
  • Made in Freedom - in Portugal. As entrepreneurs, we have a choice where to invest. And to us, cycling means freedom, so we invest accordingly.
  • Worry-free details such as a UDH hanger, a T47 threaded BB and internal routing with easy cockpit adjustments mean more riding and less wrenching.

The new U.P. 2.O - with 20mm higher stack = less spacers!

Differences U.P. 2.0 & U.P.PER. 2.0.

  • Both frames are made in Portugal and tested to the same strength and stiffness standards. The U.P.PER 2.0 uses a different, ultralight layup, while the U.P. 2.0 is more affordable.
  • While both frames have cargo rivnuts for a toptube bag and under-the-BB storage, U.P. 2.0 has 3 extra rivnuts UNDER the toptube for a frame bag (various options coming).
  • The U.P. 2.0 comes in various colors, the U.P.PER 2.0 is always predominantly black. Both are available in Raw-Ready-to-paint for custom painting.

Aero where it matters,Comfort where it counts.

  • Aero matters most up-front (headtube, fork, bars, downtube), where airflow is still smooth. But aero is moot if the bike is too harsh to stay aero yourself on long rides. We optimize aero and compliance together, through tube design and carbon layup.
  • As we go further back on the frame, comfort always beats aero. The seattube, chainstay & seatstay shapes ensure the comfort OPEN is known for. As a bonus, the ultra-thin seatstays keep the frontal area small. They even get a micro-aero treatment.

New adjustable stem - 15mm of adjustment in 5mm steps

OPEN B.A.R. (Break All Rules).

  • One-piece bar-stems look nice and can be light, but lack adjustability. Enter the OPEN B.A.R., with its closed-form 100% carbon composite design. No threaded inserts or vertical cut for the clamping bolts, just continuous fibers for the best weight, stiffness & strength.
  • Even better, our patented internal clamp system lets you adjust stem length by 15mm in 5mm steps. Often you can even adjust the length without undoing the brake hoses.
  • With 10 different bars, there is always one perfect for you. Welcome to the OPEN B.A.R. Cheers!
  • Note: Previous generation OPEN frame riders will usually convert to the same frame size of the U.P.(PER). 2.0 with a 10mm shorter stem to compensate for the 10mm longer effective frame reach (ignore standard reach in the geometry chart for this purpose). So keep that in mind when selecting your OPEN B.A.R. size.

Fork Design

  • Where tire clearance, steering geo, aerodynamics, compliance, cargo, braking efficiency all come together. The U.P.(PER) 2.0 has 2 fork options, each in 5 sizes.

A message from Open's Founders:

Open Cycles motto is “working hard to stay small”.

"We’ve done the “big company” thing, and it was time for something different.

So we design the bikes we want to ride ourselves, we produce them, sell them to like-minded people and that's it.

Staying small forces us to focus on what matters: Product development, taking care of customers (shops and consumers), and not much else. No sponsorships, no marketing, no flashy offices; we simply don’t have the time for any of that.

So if you like the simplicity of nice bikes, nice rides, nice company and nothing else, join us at OPEN"

Regards,

Andy & Gerard

What our clients say

  • "The personal service from both Phil and Julian is second to none. They have such a wealth of experience in fitting that they can almost tell at a glance if something is just a little off. It felt as though it didn't matter how long it took to get the best position possible - even for an amateur cyclist like myself. Can't recommend them enough."

    WD

    Recreational cyclist

  • "I'm new to cycling so needed some support on finding a bike that would be right for me. Julian couldn't have been kinder or more supportive, he took time to find out what I wanted from my cycling and then looked closely at my physical structure to ensure that the bike is a comfortable fit for me. It really is a 5 star service and far exceeded my expectations."
