The Midlife Cyclist Giro Ride 2023

Phil and Julian warmly invite you to join them on a long weekend of riding in Italy.

A chance to discover the joys of Lombardia by bike as well as learn what makes the Giro d’Italia the most beautiful and exciting race of the cycling calendar from Thursday 18th May to Monday 22nd May 2023.

Thursday 18th May

  • On arrival at the airport you will be met by our friends at Italy Bike Tours who will transfer you the short distance to Rive Lago Hotel.
  • Please choose flights that arrive at Milan Bergamo or Milan Linate early afternoon.
  • On arrival at our gorgeous hotel, you will be assisted with check-in and bike fits before we hop on the bikes and enjoy an afternoon ride in the Franciacorta wine region. The perfect 40km of rolling hills to welcome you to Italy. Dinner to be served in the hotel restaurant.

Friday 19th May

  • After a beautiful breakfast overlooking Monte Isola we take a late morning ride around Italy’s most picturesque Lake, Lake Iseo. Today’s ride takes us through beautiful villages and along the shore of the Lake. For those that wish we will take an ‘easy’ 6km climb that was a favourite of Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome when they lived in the area.
  • On return to the hotel there will be time to relax and unwind. Maybe take a dip in the pool or take the ferry over to the island for an aperitivo. Dinner to be served in our favourite local pizzeria.

Saturday 20th May

  • This morning we pay homage to one of Italy’s finest cyclists, Marco Pantani. It is 25 years since Marco Pantani won the Giro – TdF double, it can be argued that this remarkable feat will never be repeated. The ride takes us north, in the direction of Switzerland, our destination, Montecampione. The climb was the scene of Pantani’s most famous victory in the Giro d’italia. A stunning statute to commemorate the victory awaits those that arrive at the summit at 1800m.
  • For those that wish less of a challenge, then ice cream, beer or both await you at 1200m. The perfect place to watch the world go by at the café overlooking the lake. A super descent and ride back to the hotel complete today’s ride.
  • Dinner tonight served on Monte Isola.

Sunday 21st May

  • Let’s go and watch the Giro d’Italia – Stage 15. After breakfast we once again hop on the bikes and ride west to Bergamo. Bergamo is home to Il Lombardia, great pasta and Atalanta BC. We will watch the riders pass us on the legendary Selvino climb before changing out of lycra and heading to the stage finish and the VIP hospitality area.
  • Nothing beats being there and the experience of enjoying hospitality on one of the most important stages of the Giro d’Italia 2023. It will make you the envy of your cycling friends.
  • Today’s dinner will be enjoyed in Bergamo’s Citta Alta (old city).

What our clients say

  • "A great service, full of personal touches as well as the "harder" scientific analysis of my position on the bike, which was also excellent. I feel more planted on the bike now, and came away with some really useful feedback from the session."

    Ed H

    London Dynamo Rider

  • "Hey Julian and Phil, I hope you are both well. I just completed a 21 hour week on my new 165mm cranks and I am in love. They feel so so great! Thank you for all your help. I’ve never felt so comfortable on my bike before. All the best, Hannah"

    Hannah Barnes

National Champion / Professional Bike Rider

  • "Very very personalised service. You arrive, they expect you, greet you by first name, have checked your file from past visits and set out very clearly what the process will be, what issues they're looking to address and how and they are happy to take the time to walk you through everything in layman's terms. Almost any professional service entity could learn a lot from how Cyclefit works. "

    Peter G.

    Recreational rider

  • "Rode my standard Box Hill loop this morning with the temp shims and more thought to position. Felt more connected and compact on the bike. Fastest ride of the year, picked up close to a km/per hour despite crappy wet pot holed roads, a ton of traffic and a couple of nights out Thu/Fri."

    Matt H

    Seven Evergreen SL

  • "I have a lot of trust in you guys and I know how you work so I think we could do something good. Orthotics feeling good."

    Tom Pidcock

World and Olympic champion, Ineos Grenadiers.
